What changed for 2026

Texas redrew its congressional map in 2025. For District 36 that means:

  • 279 precincts → 299 (+20)
  • 8 counties → 9 — the county organizations this district works with.

No longer in this district:

  • Liberty County — held 22 precincts here in 2024

New to this district:

  • Angelina County — 41 precincts
  • Brazoria County — 18 precincts

Still here, but a different share:

  • Harris County — 131 precincts → 99 (-32)
  • Jefferson County — 29 precincts → 44 (+15)

A county can stay in the district while the number of its precincts here changes substantially — which a simple list of counties would not show.

Most precincts kept their exact 2024 boundaries even where the district changed — the State House, Senate and Board of Education maps were not redrawn, so this is the congressional redraw rather than counties renumbering precincts. How this was measured.
