Your access on Precinct Progress
These aren't just promises on a page. We maintain an automated test suite that checks the site's actual behavior against the permissions described here — every one of these rules is something we deliberately test. But tests only catch what we already thought to check. That's why your help is critical: if you can see something you shouldn't, or can't see something you should, you've very likely found a gap our tests missed — and reporting it strengthens the safeguards for every organizer on the platform.
Access on Precinct Progress flows from your role, not from signing up. Here is what each role is meant to be able to do.
Everyone (no account needed)
- Look up your precinct and your precinct chair's public contact (Find My Precinct).
- Browse the public county and congressional-district pages and the redistricting map.
- A chair's phone shows publicly only if that chair (or their county committee) has chosen to make it public; otherwise you'll see name and email.
Signed in, no organizing role yet
- Everything above, plus chair phone numbers on the lookup results.
- You won't see organizer tools until you hold a position. Want access? Use the contact form or a county's "Get Involved" page.
County team member (viewer or organizer)
- View all precincts and chairs in your county — the directory, precinct detail, congressional-district rosters, and the proximity finder.
- You do not edit precinct records or manage captains.
County administrator
- Everything a county team member can see, plus edit any precinct in your county and appoint/remove precinct captains.
Congressional District officer
(chair, vice-chair, secretary, treasurer, vacancy chair)
- View all precincts and chairs in your district — across every county it touches.
- The chair and secretary can edit precincts in the district; the chair can manage captains. Vice-chair, treasurer, and vacancy chair are view-only.
Precinct chair
- View all precincts and chairs in your county — because the proximity finder, the heart of this site, is only useful if you can see your neighboring chairs.
- You can edit your own precinct and manage its captains — not anyone else's.
Precinct captain
- View the precinct(s) you're assigned to. View-only.
Adjacent-county access is intentionally not granted today. If your work needs it, that's exactly the kind of thing worth telling us.
