Why this data exists here
Precinct Progress is a political organizing tool. Its entire purpose is to connect people with their precinct and with the local Democratic leaders who organize it. The information on this site exists to make that connection possible — to help a voter find their precinct and reach their precinct chair, and to let chairs and party officers do the work of organizing.
Where your information comes from
Information about you on this site comes from one of three places:
- you — what you enter (a precinct lookup, or your own account details);
- your county party — chair and organizer data your local Democratic party provides; or
- the Texas Secretary of State — the State's public precinct-chair disclosure website.
If you find your information here and didn't provide it yourself, it came from your county party or the State's public disclosure — and you can always contact us to review or correct it.
What we collect
- When you look up your precinct: the name, email, and (optionally) phone you enter, and the address you search. We also record basic technical data (IP address, browser, referring page) to keep the site secure and prevent abuse.
- From organizers with accounts: contact details (name, email, phone), role/position, and voter-registration ID where relevant — access flows from a political position, not open sign-up.
- Chair & officer contact information that the site displays so constituents can reach their leaders.
Our commitment — and a realistic view of what privacy means here
If you serve in a public organizing role — a precinct chair, a party officer — much of your relevant information is already a matter of public record. Precinct chairs, for example, are filed with and published by the Texas Secretary of State. We start from that reality: we assume this information is already "out there," and our job isn't to pretend we can put it back in the bottle. The purpose of this site is to help people reach you.
What we can do is limit and manage the flow rather than try to stop it:
- we restrict the deeper organizing data to people whose position authorizes it;
- you keep direct control over what gets amplified — you decide whether your phone is shown;
- we never sell the data or push it beyond the civic purpose it's here for;
- and we log changes, so the handling stays accountable.
In short: we treat your information as already public, and we work to limit the flow, not pretend to stop it.
One limit worth stating plainly
Our access controls and our audit trail assume you keep your login to yourself. We strongly discourage credential-sharing — but if you, or anyone on our site, shares credentials, that is tantamount to giving away the keys to the kingdom, and there is nothing we can do to stop that.
Your choices
Chairs can hide or show their own phone at any time. Anyone can contact us to correct or remove their information.
